Some Key Dates About Pregnancy
There are about five dates about pregnancy which are interrelated with any of the questions above which might help you better understand the way forward.
The last menstrual period date or LMP
This is the first day of your last periods. It is not the last day of your periods. The first Day is not the last day of the cycle that just ended but the first day of the cycle that is beginning, though it is the menses from the last cycle!!Well, that is the way it is. Just note these subtle things not to make a mistake for many women do make it.
The ovulation day
This is the day the egg was released by the process of ovulation.
The Day Of Sexual Intercourse
This is like the ovulation day -no sex or no ovulation, no pregnancy! The date you had an unprotected intercourse can give you a clue to the day of conception. However there are two limitations that must be acknowledge to avoid error. The first is that pregnancy does not always occur on the day you had sex! You may have sex today and the sperms deposited in you get you pregnant only after 2 days depending on the day the egg is released. This is because sperms cells can still fertilize an egg up to about 3-5 days after they are released into a woman. So after they are released, if they do not find an egg, they will wait another 3-5 days until they die! That’s how patient men can be to get the job done! Secondly, things may become more complicated when you had frequent intercourse with more than one man during the fertile period with about 2-3 days intervals. It may really get tricky here.
The Date of Conception
The pregnancy date is when you actually got pregnant. This is often not easy to determine and reason pregnancy is calculated from you LMP and not this date.
The Due Date
This is the date you will likely put to birth. If you know your LMP,you can add 40 weeks or 280 days!Who will do this? Or you can use a simple formula called Naegele’s Rule for Pregnancy which simply adds 7 to the day and subtract 3 from the month. Read more about when is my due date?
