Is This Implantation Bleeding?
Implantation bleeding or implantation spotting is an episode of mild bleeding
during very early pregnancy.
It could be mistaken for menses and could be a subtle very early pregnancy sign if you catch it right!
What Is Implantation Spotting Or Bleeding?
This is mild uterine bleeding that occurs when the fertilized egg burrows( or implants) into the uterine lining after fertilization. This process creates the slight bleeding that might be observed during implantation.
When Does Implantation Bleeding Occur?
The spotting from implantation occurs at the end of the implantation process.This
is usually about 10 to 14 days after fertilization(about the time of ovulation), depending on the length of
your cycle. The duration of bleeding is usually about one day.
Symptoms
Many times, women do not know the characteristics of spotting during implantation and therefore end up asking themselves if they are dealing with bleeding from implantation or not. The bleeding is usually mild vaginal bleeding or spotting, which pinkish
or brownish in color. However,bleeding is only one possible symptom of
the process of implantation, besides others like implantation cramps. See more on symptoms of implantation.
Implantation Spotting or Periods?
Implantation spotting and periods could be confusing because they can occur about the same time. However, both are so different that there need not be any confusion if you know the characteristics of your periods and the bleeding from implantation. They can be easily distinguished by the volume of the bleed, the duration, the timing of occurrence and the color. Read more on “implantation or period bleeding?”
You may also want to review the causes of abnormal uterine bleeding in other not to mislabel one of these as due to implantation.
Implantation Spotting or Abnormal Early Pregnancy?
Implantation spotting is not a disease and is considered a normal or physiologic process. That means it does not affect the pregnancy in any way afterward.
It is important you know that bleeding during implantation should be entertained only after more serious causes have been excluded. Three important very early pregnancy complications you should be aware of are:
- Ectopic pregnancy, which is abnormal pregnancy site
- Miscarriage
- Molar pregnancy
, in which the developing embryo
dies and the premature placenta or trophoblast grows and fills the
uterus.
If the bleeding you are experiencing is occurring earlier than you expected period, it may be one of these causes of spotting before period.
Heavy Bleeding During Implantation
Bleeding during Implantation is mild bleeding and not heavy. If you have heavy bleeding and thinking it is due to implantation, then that bleeding episode is likely not implantation spotting or bleeding in the first place. See Heavy Implantation spotting or bleeding.

What Should I Do?
If you suspect you are having implantation spotting, then do the following
- Ensure that what you are experiencing is “truly” bleeding due to implantation. If you are unsure, review the symptoms of bleeding during implantation again.
- Confirm the pregnancy with a home pregnancy test. See very early pregnancy signs.
- If the bleeding makes you concerned that something might be wrong, then it is very likely not implantation bleeding. Please see a doctor for proper and timely medical evaluation.

my last period date was 8th of may and i am having thyroid. on 4th of june i have noticed pinkish spotting and on 11th of june again in morning i have noticed light spotting. and guyz pls help me out i need to concieve at earliest as possible.
Hi, Doc. I took a clear blue HPT on Tues am (10/06). It said I was 1-2 weeks pregnant 🙂 I booked to see my GP on Fri am (13/06) and took another test the same morning just to be sure (again, it said 1-2 weeks pregnant). My GP said he was happy with the HPT’s so didn’t run any additional tests, but dated my pregnancy from my last menstrual cycle (11th May) meaning I am now 5 weeks pregnant. Last night (Sunday) each time I went to the toilet I saw a tiny watered down brown spot (the equivalent of dabbing a small droplet of tea with a tissue) each time I wiped. This happened on about 4 separate occasions. When I went to bed I had a deep dull ache in my stomach, similar to period pain and my lower back was aching a little. (I was hoping this might be a pregnancy symptom? as I haven’t really had any symptoms yet). However, when I went to the toilet this morning the tiny spot had turned to a watery pink/red colour. On my second visit to the toilet, when I wiped there was a little bit of brown/red dried stringy mucus on the tissue. And later on (on 2 occasions) I found my underwear was stained with the pinky/brown watery marks. I have had no clots and it seems as though whatever is happening might have now stopped. I’m wondering:
1) Could this have anything to do with implantation bleeding? breakthrough bleeding? (although isn’t 5 weeks is a little late for both?)
2) Is there a chance I might be losing/have lost my baby? (Would a ‘new’ HPT help determine if I’m ‘still’ pregnant or would my hcg levels still be up either way?)
3) My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 13 months and an SA result showed he had low morphology (2%). Is it possible that an abnormal sperm could have penetrated the egg and thus is now stopping the pregnancy from continuing?

I went off bc pills in Feb had the with drawl bleed and nothing since until this spotting begun 6days ago this is nothing like a period no clots no cramps no backache. .. my question is could this be implantation bleeding I took a urine test today and neg but I have no idea of when my period should have Ben here to begin with. .

Hi I’m 19 yes of age. OK so in February I got my depo shot, had no periods(which was fine). 7/22 wasuppose to get my 3rd depo shot, but I didn’t. Then my period came on the Sept. 12-15 and Sept.26 – Oct.1.. On Oct 12th I had sex with my Bf, few hours later I started spotting(light red). But this is my 4th day still spotting(regular red, light tummy cramps). But when i stand up, & go pee thats when itll flow a little or alot. My bf says its not my period, thinks I’m prego. I think its irregular bcuz of the depo, just my body cleaning herself. I need someone else serious answer/opinion.

Hi, i did not have a period last month, and i did have unprotected sex well half was unprotected but whatever, anyhow, around a weekish after my “missed” period i have been experiencing blood when i wipe, it is dark red to light red to brown, and its always there when i wipe. Sometimes its faint other times, well most times, its bright red and slimey and mostly always has clots, sometimes they are dark red and then a couple times it was black clots. I have had experienced this last month with my period, i thought i missed but after a few days it cme with a vengence. Im worried that i might be pregnant, but have no idea if i am or not i took a test a week after my missed period and it was negetive. I just want some advise. I tdo not have sore boobs, but with in the last coupld of days ive been cramping lightly. This, well, whatever you call it has been going on for almost a week and a half. What do you think it is?
Hello. So I’ve always had irregular periodsas long as I could remember. Not to where I don’t gave a period or a very light flow, but to where its 2 or so times a month and usually heavy. I get regular obgyn checkups and I also have a almost 3 year old son. And im sexually avtive with a steady boyfriend.
Well out of no where my period just stopped about a month ago I guess. Then last weekend I had pinkish spotting for 3 days and then a little today but just when I wiped. I recently experienced spotting two weeks after my period began. It was light pink or brown only when I used the bathroom…this went on for three days. Then on the fourth day I had cramps that lasted about an hour and heavier bright red blood that required the use of a pad. The amount of blood passed did not warrant changing the pad more than once a day. Then the following day, I returned to spotting only when using the restroom beginning the day with bright red and now it has returned to a pinkish color. I had a blood pregnancy test done and it came back normal. Could I still be pregnant and it’s just two early to detect? I’m not due to begin my period for another 10 days.

I started my period on December 2, 2015 and it ended on the 8th. 17 days later I got my period again! I have 3 children and I did have a very light short period in the very beginning before taking a pt. I’m not suppose to get my period again until the 2nd or 3rd of January. This is day number two of this weird bleeding. I’m wandering if this is implantation bleeding. I have a 30-33 day cycle. My husband and I have also been trying to concieve. Im excited, confused and worried lol. The flow is kind of medium but not spotting. It’s brown and bright red and has a quite light flow. My usual flow is heavy with harsh cramps then it goes to a light flow by the 4th day. When should I take a PT to see if I am actually pregnant? I do feel fatigue, headaches and nausea. My last period was Dec 8th and had protected sex either the 12 or 13 but since Dec 21 I’ve been feeling like crap. I puked once and since then I’ve been wanting to puke after almost anything and been having lower back pains and starting last night in Dec 25 I very lightly bleed (have to stick the tp all the way up there to get anything) but the Dec 26 no lightly bleeding what so ever but then on Dec 27 very lightly bleeding but in the 28 nothing again.

LMP April 16, used ovulation predictor kit and had sex on my most fertile days, even beyond those days. Sore boobs, fatigue, leg pain, heart burn. Took pregnacy test yesterday Imorning – clear negative then in the evening I could see very little spotting on my panty, after that I am using liner but there is nothing till today. I can see blood only when i am wiping ….. Can it be implantation bleeding or regular period? I never had this kind of period before, I always have heavy bleeding for first 2-3 days.
