Ovulation and menstruation are the two most significant processes occurring during the menstruation cycle.
Women often ask questions such as: when does ovulation occur? when
do I ovulate? Some women have even asked me ‘how long does ovulation
last?’
I will present in this web page some basic facts about the
ovulation days including predicting the ovulation date or the
conception date as is commonly called. For better comprehension of the
ovulation and menstruation, it is advisable to get the basic facts of
the ovulation cycle if you have not yet done so.
But first, when does ovulation occur?
When Does Ovulation Occur?
There is a tight relationship between the date of ovulation and
menstruation cycle. A woman ovulates at a particular time of the cycle,
depending on the length of her cycle. The precise date or exact time of
the day may vary from cycle to cycle and be affected some other
factors.
There are 3 methods by which a woman can determine the approximate ovulation date or likely conception date.
- The ovulation calender If
you know the length of your cycle and its luteal phase, you can easily
calculate the approximate date of ovulation. By subtracting the luteal phase length
from the length of the entire cycle, you obtain the likely date of
ovulation. Example: 30 -16=14, ovulation therefore likely to occur on
the 14th day of the cycle. If you do not know the length of your luteal
phase, you can use the average of 14 but this will be less accurate.More
conveniently, you can use the ovulation calender generated by a
software which determines your ovulation period from the length of your
cycle and luteal phase. These are the so-called ovulation or
menstruation calculators which produce a calender of your cycle days
showing the fertile and non-fertile periods as well as the days of
expected menses. Many of these softwares are available online for use or
for download( some free and others paid). - The ovulation chart This involves monitoring the signs of ovulation and recording them on a chart called the ovulation chart. This process is called fertility charting.
The ovulation date can often be easily identified by observing the
pattern of the signs on the ovulation chart. This often requires time
commitment but can be very helpful in learning about your own body. - Ovulation predictor kitsThese
are urinary test strips that detect the presence of the hormone that
causes ovulation, that is, luteinizing hormone(LH). By daily testing the
urine for LH starting about 3 to 4 days before the calculated ovulation
date, you can easily detect the occurrence of ovulation even within
hours. Examples of such kits are ClearBlue Easy and OvuQuick which could
be purchased online or in offline stores.
You can read the web page how long does ovulation last? to find out an important fact which women often want to know by asking this question.
